Commentary 17 - On "Artificial Wave"

sebastianantioch

This poem… is very experimental! At first I was just writing and I changed some stuff. Eventually I found my own groove and wrote about being addicted to social media and screens. This is apparent in my own life as I am in a community with a lot of good children being raised with proper care and attention unlike secular society would want us to. They aren’t being raised on phones from the minute they’re born and the effects have been positive from what I’ve seen, they’re great kids. This poem was about reflecting on the fact that we’re addicted to things that aren’t even real. It’s all for show and we just want to be a part of the trends rather than being real people. We’ve lost touch with tangible things and it is sad. But at the same time, it doesn’t have to be that way! Go for a walk, read a book outside, write some poetry! Do something constructive and building. We can do anything in reality. Who cares if doing these things are weird anyways? They’re fun and I wanna do them, especially if it means being real and apart from the hypocrites.

We all want to emulate those we see on social media. Consuming so much content that we feel unworthy of ourselves just because there seems to be others who are in similar situations doing way better than we ever could. Instead of realizing that it is mostly all fake, we obsess about it. Obsess over what we want from these fake lives, all to the point of comparison hurting our hearts. I wanted to express that in this experimental writing, being trapped in the artificial instead of anything real.

I'll be writing about that more soon, but for now enjoy this poem about being addicted to social media and being unable to notice the problems until it is too late.
